A wide variety of styles
In Mexico of the XX Century the variety of styles in Mexico grew as a result of the influence of the European avant gardes. Most of the Mexican figures of this time lived for a period of time in Europe and met the avant garde artists. The Mexican Academy of Arts: Academia de San Carlos offered the opportunity to express without a specific line of production. Important figures of this time were:
rufino tamayoHe was borned in Oaxaca in a family closed to the indigeneous traditions of this state. His paintings reflect a lot of the Mixteca and Zapoteca world, ancient cultures of Oaxaca. His studio always had many easels to work in different pieces at the same time. He did not use oil paintings or any other pigments he could buy in an art store. The brilliant colors were a result of his self manufacturing of pigments with natural soil, sand plants and flowers as ancient artisans of Oaxaca did. It was a real ritual that he always did on their own.
