Due to the fact that Art is a vital and persistent aspect of human experience, we study the arts and their history because they teach us about our own creative expressions and those of our past. This is another way to study history... through the eyes of people that lived in a particular context and were willing to tell something to their society.
Art and Culture course has four main axis: learn to know, learn to do, be and live. Under this vision it can be inferred that one of the ways to understand human evolution is through the observation of the artistic manifestations of the cultures and their different expressions of reality. From this point of view, approaching to art and culture world means to look and analyze in a formal way, any artistic object, giving students the chance to apply his critical and creative thinking to state judgments and giving them the opportunity to act as more tolerant and respectful citizens of human creations.
Considering that the objectives of Desarrollo and Humanidades Departments are that graduated students could be able to apply their thinking for their personal improvement; to have a critical stand towards their socio-cultural context, past and present, in humanities and social sciences, in such a way that they could analyze and create feasible proposals to face a specific social problem, having also the basis and information to make a wise decision about their professional career choice.
These are reasons why the Art and Culture course have the following intentions:
The Vision of the Institution for 2015 establishes that:
In the year 2015, Tecnológico de Monterrey will be the most widely recognized educational institution
in Latin America due to the leadership exercised by alumni in the private, public, and social sectors,
and for the research and technological development it carries out to promote a knowledge-based
economy, generate management and business incubators models, improve public administration and
public policies, and create innovative models and systems for the sustainable development of the
community.
The Mission indicates that:
The mission of Tecnológico de Monterrey is to form persons with integrity, ethical standards and a
humanistic outlook, who are internationally competitive in their professional fields; at the same time,
they will be good citizens committed to the economic, political, social and cultural development of
their community and to the sustainable use of natural resources.
Preparatoria Esmeralda´s Mission states that:
Preparatoria Esmeralda will be recognized internationally by the excellence of its academical programs and teachers; its formative activities, multicultural and international environment and ethical and integral students committed with their society.
With this mission, Tecnológico de Monterrey and its community are committed to contributing to the educational, social, economic, and political improvement of México.

- Promote the love for a humanistic culture in different forms of expression.
- Develop the appreciation for knowledge, its use for personal growth as well as the use of critical thinking, ability to research and learn by themselves.
- Create a vision and international culture, the interest to keep on studying during their careers and to have an effective oral and written communication in English.
